Oral Cancer: The Need for

Early Detection

Oral cancer is a major public health challenge, with India accounting for nearly 50% of the global disease burden. Most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment options are limited and survival rates are poor. Importantly, oral cancer is often preceded by oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), creating a critical opportunity for early detection and intervention.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) funded for research that enabled the development of a point-of-care diagnostic portfolio for early oral cancer detection, including a dual-mode imaging probe, the mCyTEz cytology assay, and mSal-Ez salivary assay.
